The World Made Straight

The World Made Straight was a interesting book. Travis and Leonard become friends through the discovery of a crop of marijuana. Leonard a former school teacher now small time drug dealer takes Travis under his wing and helps him get his GED. They both are intersted in an event that took place during The Civil War near their home. At the end of each chapter of the story are entries from a Civil war doctor's journal that ties in with the event.

Fair and Tender Ladies

I didn't like Fair and Tender Ladies. It was very predictible. In most situations you knew what the outcome would be. Ivy was a hard working person who wanted an education and to better herself, but in the end the call of the mountain was stronger than that desire.

Porgy

I enjoyed reading Porgy. I believe that Heyward tried to portray this time in history the best that he could being that he was just looking in at the lives, not living them. I enjoyed the characters and didn't have much trouble with the Gullah dialect.

Photobucket

Debbie and I used Photobucket to post pictures from our trip to San Antonio on the Libray home page.
